[T]he [] attorneys who work for Corpion decide whether they want to give up time on weekends to handle expedited client requests. Clients who sign up with Corp Law know there’s a rush fee attached to fast-track legal work and that the attorney being asked to work on Saturday or Sunday has the ultimate call. If they accept, they get a portion of the rush fee. Corpion is vetting a similar policy for support staff to ensure it complies with Florida Bar rules.

“I don’t expect you to give up your weekend, so let’s build something out where you get something out of it. If one lawyer passes on it and has something going on, maybe another lawyer might want to step in and do it,” Corpion said. “I want to give lawyers more choice so they’re feeling like they’re not expected to work at 2 a.m. on a Friday because they’re getting their normal salary.”
Coming from a Biglaw firm with an annualized bonus structure, Corpion has changed things up for her own employees, paying out quarterly bonuses should they exceed their quarterly target of 450 billable hours. At the end of the day, she wants everyone to know that they have full autonomy over their own work — and relatedly, their own compensation.
