Legal Eagle Wedding Watch: September 24, 2006

Lawyer weddings come, and lawyer weddings go. The weekend of September 16-17, a veritable cornucopia of attorney nuptials, was followed by the weekend of September 23-24 — not an embarrassment of riches, but just an embarrassment.*
No way are we writing about Cheryl Connolly and Kyle Lewis — Lewis was wounded in Iraq, so the guy’s been through enough. Here are the couples in contention:

1. Elizabeth Kennedy, Nicholas Vitek

2. Cameron Schroeder, Justin Levitt

3. Anne Davis, Charles Wollenhaupt

Who will secure the final berth in the September 2006 Couple of the Month contest? Find out, after the jump.
* Speaking of embarrassments, we realize we are weeks behind in Legal Eagle Wedding Watch (“LEWW”). We’re writing about weddings that took place last month; some of these couples are probably divorced by now. See — we really do need some help around here! If we can find the right writer, we’d even consider outsourcing LEWW.

1. Elizabeth Kennedy, Nicholas Vitek
Résumé score: 8.7. Liz is Smith College (magna) and Boalt Hall, now at Fried Frank. Nick is University of Washington (magna) and American University Law (summa), now at the Legal Aid Society of Brooklyn. In baseball terms — we hate sports, so give us props for this reference — this is a solid single.
Family score: 9.0. As the old saying goes, “A high-powered bride’s father lifts all boats.” Her father is the managing partner of Willkie Farr, so he deserves the lion’s share of the credit for the high family score. Her mother works with organizations that help children with disabilities. His mother is a retired technical writer, and his father is an assistant professor of English at Edgewood College, Madison, Wisconsin.
Balance score: 8.7. Solid; she’s marginally stronger than he is (see résumé and family, supra).
Beauty score: 9.2. Elizabeth Kennedy has a fresh-faced appeal. Nicholas Vitek is boyishly adorable, a la Jesse Bradford. (So what if he looks like he’s 12? Paging Mark Foley…)
Overall score: 8.90.
Additional comments: The photo — not online, unfortunately — is super-cute. They’re assuming the whole “Siamese Twins Joined at the Head” pose, which is de rigeur for the New York Times wedding pages.
2. Cameron Schroeder, Justin Levitt
Résumé score: 9.0. Both are Harvard Law grads (we saw a number of HLS couples over the summer). Cameron, with the WASPily adrogynous first name, graduated from Barnyard Barnard College, summa cum laude. She’s now at Debevoise & Plimpton, “the New York law firm” (note the use of the definite article; t’s deliberate). Justin did his undergraduate work, as well as graduate work (an MPA), at Harvard. Three Crimson degrees — that’s one expensive pedigree. He’s now a staff lawyer at the Brennan Center at NYU, focused on voting rights.
Family score: 8.5. Her father is a mechnical engineer, and her mother works with educators and parents of children with disabilities. His mother is a language tutor, and his father is a partner in Golden Rothschild Spagnola Lundell Levitt & Boylan, “a Bridgewater law firm” (note the use of the indefinite article).
Beauty score: 8.5. Cameron strikes us as a warmer version of the talented actress Tilda Swinton.
Balance score: 9.0. Going to the same law school countes for a lot.
Overall score: 8.75.

3. Anne Davis, Charles Wollenhaupt
Résumé score: 8.6. Anne is Dartmouth, UVA, and Arnold & Porter — a highly prestigious path, if not super-exciting. But one of her prior job is quite exotic: she served as an assistant prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, at The Hague. Charles went to CSU Sacramento and will soon be starting a master’s program in public management at the University of Maryland. He works as a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton (a top firm; this is the highlight of his résumé).
Family score: 9.2. Occupations for the mothers aren’t mentioned, and Charles’s father worked as a civil engineer in the Stockton public works department. So why such a high score? Because her father has served as an ambassador — twice. John R. Davis Jr. was the U.S. ambassador to Poland, from 1987 to 1990, and the ambassador to Romania, from 1992 to 1994. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Balance score: 8.0. To be perfectly frank, not a terribly balanced couple, at least on paper. Might Charles Wollenhaupt be ridiculously good-looking? (No photo, unfortunately.)
Overall score: 8.60.
THIS WEEK’S WINNING COUPLE: We’ve had some close finishes lately (including a tie). So it’s nice to have a clear winner this week: Elizabeth Kennedy and Nicholas Vitek. Belated congratulations to the happy couple!
