This is the question that’s been on associates’ minds since early December. That’s when Cadwalader first announced its bonuses per the so-called Simpson scale. Even at that time, folks were wondering what Cadwalader was up to — Davis Polk had already trumped the Simpson scale. Perhaps Cadwalader was holding out hope that Davis Polk was a crazy outlier.
Since then, Biglaw fell all over itself to match the DPW scale, but Cadwalader remained conspicuously silent. Like the cheese at the end of a roaring rendition of The Farmer In The Dell, Cadwalader stood alone. Or at least pretty close to alone. It’s enough to make Cadwalader associates want to chuck it all in and go into the escort business. At least they have the common decency to throw in cab fare after they’ve screwed you.
Well, we have good news today: Cadwalader has matched Davis. In a short email sent this afternoon by by managing partner Pat Quinn, Cadwalader rejoined the associate compensation pack:
