Leading Biglaw Firm Joins In On Associate Salary Raise Frenzy

Even Canadian firms are getting in on the action. Congrats!

Raises continue to spread through the legal profession, and if your firm has a New York office, then associates better believe — or hope/pray, depending on the firm — that they may have a raise coming. We’ve heard from all the Magic Circle firms with U.S. offices, and now it’s time for a member of the Seven Sisters to give this a try.

What are the Seven Sisters, you may ask? It’s a group of leading law firms in Canada with offices in Toronto, specifically (in alphabetical order), Blakes, Davies, Goodmans, McCarthy, Osler, Stikeman, and Torys.

The latest firm to join in the U.S. raise game is none other than Torys. The firm handed out special bonuses to associates and counsel back in April, and now it’s offering even more cash compensation to its New York associates in the form of salary increases, effective July 1.

This is what the new salary scale (a Davis Polk match) looks like at the firm:

  • 2021: $202,500
  • 2020: $205,000
  • 2019: $215,000
  • 2018: $240,000
  • 2017: $275,000
  • 2016: $305,000
  • 2015: $330,000
  • 2014: $350,000
  • 2013+: $365,000
