Before he was the beloved Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff was a noted Biglaw partner, most recently at DLA Piper. Partners are often put in awkward positions vis-à-vis their clients. Maybe they have to share a less than ideal result, or shoot down a client’s brain child for legal reasons, or break their new billable rates — whatever the reason, these tough convos are a part of the job.
But the best lawyers know how to turn that around — and keep the clients happy. Emhoff is exactly that guy. Last night at the Democratic National Convention, Emhoff took the stage and told an endearing story that was basically, “So, I had a contentious client meeting… yadda yadda yadda… now I’m the country’s first Second Gentleman.”
