Sidley’s Partnership Promotions Are Off The Charts Thanks To The Firm’s Brand New Nonequity Tier

The firm's embrace of nonequity partners helped produce its largest recent partnership class.

Ed. note: Welcome to our daily feature, Quote of the Day.

This group of newly-elected partners reflects an extraordinary depth of talent and dedication. They have earned the confidence of both our clients and colleagues, and we are proud to recognize this significant milestone. We look forward to their continued contributions to the firm and the profession.

—  Yvette Ostolaza, chair of Sidley’s management committee, in comments given to the American Lawyer, concerning the firm newest partnership class, which is up 79% from the December promotion class prior, no doubt thanks to the firm’s adoption of a nonequity partnership tier. Thanks to the nonequity track, the firm recently announced 52 new partners, compared to 29 in 2025, and 38 in 2024. This is reportedly the “first and only time” Sidley will announce a summer partnership round.
