Taj Still Lives! And He's Running for Arizona AG.

One of our five favorite motions of 2009 was filed by Arizona attorney Tajudeen “Taj” Oladiran. Oladiran is former Greenberg Traurig associate who filed a lawsuit against “Suntrust Bank and its pimps” for allegedly suckering him into predatory housing loans.

Taj filed a “Motion for a [sic] Honest and Honorable Court System” in his racketeering case against Suntrust before the “dishonorable” Susan Bolton. In it, Taj called Judge Bolton “a brainless coward,” not exactly the best way to win her over.

He ended the motion:

Finally, to Susan Bolton, we shall meet again you know where. 🙂

Some worried that closing indicated suicidal intentions, so we tracked him down and brought you the post: Taj Lives! (And He’s Pissed).

We’re happy to report that Taj still lives. And despite his impolitic motion, he’s heading into politics. He’s filed papers to run for the Republican nomination for the Arizona attorney general race…

The Arizona Republic has a report on the superintendent of schools Tom Horne announcing his campaign for the GOP AG ticket, and mentions Taj in passing:

The announcement, which has been expected for months, made Horne the second candidate to file paperwork for the Republican nomination. Tajudeen Oladiran, a Chandler attorney, also has filed paperwork.

Taj issued an open letter to Arizona voters about his campaign in a December email. It began:

My Fellow Arizonans, my name is Tajudeen O. Oladiran, “Taj” to my friends. I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, but I have lived in the U.S. for the past nineteen (19) years. I am a graduate of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (B.S., 1991), and I have a law degree, cum laude, from Arizona State University, Arizona (J.D., 2001). I have been a successful law student or practitioner since my first legal clerkship in 1998, and I have been successful in the profession far beyond my years, thank God….

We’re not campaign consultants, but we’d advise him not to start out emails seeking donations with the mention of his Nigerian roots.

As indicated by his suit against Suntrust, Taj is not a fan of the country’s financial institutions. He goes on to explain his platform in the letter:

The State of Arizona needs an Attorney General that will take on the banks, stop foreclosures (these fire sales that do not benefit either party), and get Arizonans back in their homes.

Taj has some experience in the AG office. He worked there for nine months in 2006 between stints at Greenberg Traurig.

His campaign coffers don’t look good though. He writes:

I am not perfect. I moved to this country almost twenty years ago with $200 in my pocket and a strong desire to live the American Dream and serve others. After all the years, nothing has changed, I am still worth about $200 and I still wake up daily with a strong desire to live the American Dream and serve others.

Maybe Taj should have spent some more time living the Biglaw dream.
