What do you get when you combine the chance to participate in groundbreaking social-justice litigation with robust compensation, including market-level bonuses? An elite litigation boutique that’s a recruiting magnet — in other words, Kaplan and Company.
The firm, founded by legendary litigator Roberta A. Kaplan (of United States v. Windsor fame), is not a year old. But it has already attracted other top talents, such as legal wunderkind Joshua Matz (check out his new book about impeachment (affiliate link)) — and it continues to grow, as reflected in two new hires.
LexisNexis Practical Guidance Rolls Out Dedicated Practice Area for AI & Technology
The new generation of AI-related legal issues are inherently cross-disciplinary, implicating corporate law, intellectual property, data privacy, employment, corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
The latest additions to the “Company” in Kaplan and Company are Gabrielle Tenzer and Alexander Rodney, who join as a senior counsel and senior associate, respectively. They’re perfect fits for the firm given their strong backgrounds in both commercial litigation and public interest work.
Gabrielle Tenzer spent more than a decade at Robbie Kaplan’s former firm, Paul Weiss, where she worked on the complex, billion-dollar cases that the firm is known for. She graduated from NYU Law School and clerked for Judge Robert W. Sweet (S.D.N.Y.). Before going to law school, she served in government, including time at the White House and on Capitol Hill (where she worked for then-Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton).
Alex Rodney also hails from one of Biglaw’s biggest names: Cravath, Swaine & Moore. Prior to his four-plus years at Cravath, he served as a law clerk for the Chief Justice of Israel and for Judge William G. Young (D. Mass.). He received his law degree from the University of Cambridge (with First Class Honors) and his LL.M. from Harvard Law School,
Since launching last July, Kaplan & Company has already become the type of “old-fashioned/new-fashioned” law firm that Kaplan envisioned when she left Paul Weiss: representing clients like Airbnb, Sydell Group, Vice Media and Columbia University in high-stakes matters, while also devoting significant resources to social justice work. The firm helped launch the Times Up Legal Defense Fund and represents clients like Melanie Kohler, Starkville Pride, and the ten plaintiffs who sued the Nazis and white supremacists responsible for the violence that occurred in Charlottesville.

Congratulations to Gabrielle Tenzer and Alex Rodney on joining a great new firm, and congratulations to Kaplan and Company on the newest additions to its team — who might be the latest accomplished attorneys to join the firm, but who surely won’t be the last.
