Powell_Cov_Final_HiRes-400x600With the foreword written by Judge Alex Kozinski, Licensed to Lie reads like a legal thriller, but it is the true story of the strong-arm, illegal, and unethical tactics used by headline-grabbing federal prosecutors in their pursuit of power. The book exposes the truth behind many of the high profile federal cases of the last decade in what many describe as a “fast read” that they “couldn’t put down.”  Lawyers, judges and countless readers have called the book “shocking,” “compelling,” “jaw-dropping,” and a mandatory read for anyone with even a passing interest in justice, politics, and law.  It’s the perfect holiday gift for every lawyer or law student you know.

Licensed to Lie has been ranked #1 on Amazon in multiple categories, including Law/Ethics, Judicial Branch, and White Collar Crime.

As Judge Kozinski said:  “This book should serve as the beginning of a serious conversation about whether our criminal justice system continues to live up to its vaunted reputation. As citizens of a free society, we all have an important stake in making sure that it does.”

According to Brendan V. Sullivan, Jr., Williams & Connolly LLP: “It would be malpractice to litigate against the Department of Justice without reading this book. . .which is more instructive than any criminal law course offered today in our best law schools.”

“This book reads like a cross between investigative journalism and courtroom drama. The takeaway is that both Bushies and Obamaites should be very afraid: over the last few years, a coterie of vicious and unethical prosecutors who are unfit to practice law has been harbored within, and enabled by the now ironically named Department of Justice.”  Bill Hodes, co-author, The Law of Lawyering.

Mike Leon, writing for the legal blog MALcontends, said: “With this work, the former federal prosecutor and appellate attorney Ms. Powell stands among the great whistleblowers in modern American history as she exposes the injustices and inhumanities perpetrated by the self-aggrandizing members of two federal DoJ task forces, who truly had a license to lie and to destroy innocent lives without any federal prosecutor having conscience enough to even acknowledge the suffering they caused.”

The author, Sidney Powell, was the youngest Assistant United States Attorney in the country when she was appointed. She served in the Department of Justice for ten years under nine United States Attorneys. A Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, she also served as its President. Recognized by her peers as a “Super Lawyer” and one of the “Best Lawyers in America” for years, she has been lead counsel in more than 500 appeals in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, resulting in more than 180 published opinions.  She also served as President of the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit.
